25th wedding anniversary: The ceremony took place on 20 November 1947 at Westminster Abbey. Before the official announcement of their engagement in July, Philip Oldenburg relinquished his Greek and Danish royal titles and styles as member of the house of Glücksburg, and adopted his maternal surname Mountbatten, an Anglicized version of Battenberg, adopted by his family during the first world war.
